No. List Hiker works with all major tracking devices and apps — keep using the ones you love. List Hiker enhances them by matching your recorded hikes to your lists automatically. That said, the List Hiker iPhone app does include built-in tracking if you'd prefer to record your hikes right in the app.

It's not — give it a try! In most cases List Hiker connects to your current and previous tracking services seamlessly and imports everything for you. How do I import and organize activities into List Hiker?

Every hike you have ever recorded can live in List Hiker — and you never have to type a GPS coordinate to get it there. It all starts on Add or Sync Activities, where there are three ways in. Connect it once and forget about it Connect Strava and List Hiker pulls in your history and keeps up with new activities as you record them. Or install the List Hiker iPhone app and turn on Apple Health sync — every workout your Apple Watch or iPhone records flows in on its own, with its track. This is the path most hikers want: set it up on a rainy evening, then never think about it again. Drop in whatever you already have Drag your files onto the import card — or click it and browse. List Hiker figures out what it is looking at: Track files — GPX, TCX, or FIT, one at a time or hundreds at once, loose or inside a ZIP. Full account exports — the download-your-data ZIP from Garmin, Strava, Runkeeper, Outdooractive, or AllTrails. How do I import my activities from Strava?

The easiest way to load all historical and ongoing activities from Strava is to use Strava Sync — connect once and everything is automatic. If you would rather not sync with Strava, you can upload your historical data by visiting Account Download and Deletion at Strava. (Don't worry — despite the scary title, you don't have to delete your account.) Click Download Request, and Strava will email you a file with all your activities. Then simply load that file into List Hiker. Remember: without Strava Sync, new activities will not automatically load into List Hiker.

How do I import my Apple Watch / Apple Health workouts?

If you use the List Hiker iOS app, its built-in Apple Fitness sync is the simplest path — it loads your history and keeps new workouts in sync automatically. Otherwise, if your Apple Watch workouts are saved in the Apple Health app, you can load them with a Health export: Open the Health app on your iPhone. Tap your profile photo in the top-right corner. Scroll to the bottom and tap Export All Health Data. Save or AirDrop the resulting export.zip to wherever you'll upload from, then load that file into List Hiker. The export contains a lot of personal medical data. List Hiker keeps only your workouts and their GPS routes and deletes everything else in your browser, before anything is uploaded. Workouts recorded without GPS (indoor and the like) are imported too, but can't match peaks or segments. With the Health-export path, new activities won't load automatically — re-export whenever you want to bring in more.

How do I import my activities from Garmin Connect?

If you already sync your Garmin data with Strava, those activities load automatically when you sync with Strava. Otherwise, go to Garmin Data Management on the web and select Export Your Data. Garmin will email you a file — this typically takes 48 hours. Then simply load the file into List Hiker. Ongoing activities: sync via Strava (you can create a free account if you don't have one). In the Strava app go to Settings → Connect an App or Device, then select Garmin and Garmin Connect. You can also connect on the Strava website — select Connect with Garmin under Social Connections. Once set up, your activities track automatically to both Strava and List Hiker.

How do I import my activities from COROS?

If you already sync your COROS data with Strava, those activities load automatically when you sync with Strava. Otherwise, go to the COROS Training Hub, click Activity List, select Export Data, choose the FIT file format, and enter your email. COROS will mail you a file with all your activities — simply upload it to List Hiker. Ongoing activities: sync via Strava (you can create a free account if you don't have one). In the Strava app go to Settings → Connect an App or Device, then select COROS. Once set up, your activities track automatically to both Strava and List Hiker.

How do I import my activities from ASICS Runkeeper?

Export your Runkeeper activities on the web in Runkeeper Settings, then simply upload the file to List Hiker. ASICS Runkeeper sadly does not allow other services to synchronize recorded activities in an ongoing fashion. One workaround is to simply re-import whenever you wish — List Hiker will only load your new activities. Another is to redundantly track new activities with Strava (or another service, such as Garmin Connect, that syncs with Strava).

How do I import my activities from AllTrails?

You can request a file containing all your AllTrails activities at the AllTrails Privacy Center. Select Make a Privacy Request and then Download all my data. AllTrails will send you your file via email — sometimes this can take up to 30 days. When you receive it, simply upload the file to List Hiker. AllTrails sadly does not allow other services to synchronize recorded activities in an ongoing fashion. One workaround is to redundantly track new activities with Strava (or another service, such as Garmin Connect, that syncs with Strava). Another workaround is to download individual GPX files after each activity: on alltrails.com, hover over your profile at the top right and click Show Profile, click Activities, select the activity, click the ••• above the activity title, select Export route file, and save the GPX file. You can then load the GPX file into List Hiker.

How do I import my activities from Gaia GPS?

On the web at gaiagps.com, go to your saved folders (the Saved Folders icon on the left side of the map view), select the folder containing your activities, then click Export to GPX. Simply load the resulting file into List Hiker. Take care not to load activities that other people have shared with you — this is a common problem with Gaia GPS. We recommend double-checking your activities in List Hiker after loading and deleting any that are not your own. Gaia GPS sadly does not allow other services to synchronize recorded activities in an ongoing fashion. One workaround is to redundantly track new activities with Strava (or another service, such as Garmin Connect, that syncs with Strava). Another is to download individual GPX files after each activity and load them into List Hiker.

Can I import my list-tracking spreadsheet?

Yes — List Hiker supports common spreadsheet formats. You can upload either Excel or CSV files. If your file is in Google Sheets, choose File → Download → Microsoft Excel to get an Excel version to upload. List Hiker automatically recognizes many spreadsheets, including AMC tracking lists. If your spreadsheet doesn't load properly, contact us and we'll figure out how to make it work.

What track file formats can I upload?

If you have track files from a GPS device or app, you can upload GPX, TCX, or FIT files — any number of them at once, or even a ZIP file containing them. In many cases List Hiker will auto-detect the source of the file. Note that List Hiker only imports files containing actual tracks. Saved routes, plans, or maps inside these files are ignored.

Can I import my paper hiking log or checklist?

Years of hikes recorded on a paper checklist, in a trail journal, or on the back of a map? Photograph the page and upload the picture — List Hiker reads the dates and peak names off it and turns them into activities you can review before anything is saved. A few things help it read cleanly: Good, even light — no hard shadow across the page. The whole page in frame, as square-on as you can manage. One photo per page; upload several at once if your log runs long. Printed checklists and tidy handwriting work best. Heavy cursive is harder. This one is in beta, so it shows its work: you always see exactly what was read, with every row editable, before it becomes part of your record. A misread date or an ambiguous peak name is a quick fix, not a cleanup job. If a log defeats it entirely, send it to us and we'll teach it that format.

What kinds of activities count toward a list?

List Hiker supports activities of all types, as long as the activity can be matched against peak and trail-segment locations. List organizations generally require that you reach the peak and return under your own power. So for list tracking, hiking, trail running, walking, running, snowshoeing, and backcountry skiing are all fine — mountain biking would not be under such rules. Accidentally recorded a hike as a bike ride? Don't worry — List Hiker will flag it and help you fix it.

How does List Hiker match my hikes to my lists?

The moment a hike arrives, List Hiker matches your GPS track to the peaks and trail segments you crossed and updates every list you're tracking, in real time. No more forgetting to write a hike down or getting the date wrong. Peaks and full trail segments are matched straight from your track. Matches are confidence-rated, so you always know how certain a match is. One hike can count toward several of your lists at once — no double entry. List Hiker also cleans up the mess real data brings: it de-duplicates the same hike recorded on two services, handles early battery death and broken tracks, and flags activities recorded with the wrong type.

What certification rules does List Hiker check?

Every list has its own fine print, and List Hiker knows it. Some examples: Season boundaries — "season" hikes must start and end without crossing the official boundary, and the definition differs by list: astronomical seasons for New England lists, calendar seasons for pan-Northeast and other lists. Month boundaries — "month" list hikes must start and end within the month, in local time. (All date tracking is in local time.) Peak-per-hike rules — Trailwrights counts only one peak per hike, even if you tagged five. Most lists allow multiple peaks in one hike. Full-segment rules — the Terrifying 25 requires the entire length of each listed trail (partial segments may be completed across different hikes). It has 20 required trails plus 15 electives of which you must do five, and blackout dates where hikes don't qualify. Changing lists and grandfathering — lists like 52 With A View and the Catskill 3500 change their allowed peaks over time, with grandfathering or time limits for older peaks. Local exceptions — the Colorado 14ers count a peak like Mt. Bross (private property) if you traverse the public trail nearest the summit. Counting — traversing a peak more than once in a single hike counts once; a single hike can count toward multiple lists. Plausibility — elevation gain and loss must be plausible for the peak, and average and peak speed must be within reasonable human capability (with margin for GPS error and allowances for backcountry skiing). You don't have to memorize any of this — List Hiker checks every hike against the right rules automatically, so you find problems before you submit.

What if List Hiker gets something wrong?

You always have the final say. You can easily override List Hiker's peak and trail matches — for example if your GPS died before you reached the summit — or correct a date from an old spreadsheet. All of your list progress recalculates in real time.

How do I submit my completion application when I finish a list?

When you complete a list, List Hiker hands you a validated, filled-out completion application — for many lists, the sponsoring organization's own form — with dates, peaks, and details already in place. Your hikes have already been checked against the list's rules, so you're not mailing in a form with a hidden problem. Print it, sign it, and mail it in — or submit online where the organization supports it — and claim your patch, your completion certificate, and your place on the official finishers' list. List Hiker is not associated with or endorsed by list-sponsoring organizations; each organization sets and grants its own certification.
