Mount Lindsey rises to 14,055 feet at the southern end of the Sangre de Cristo Range, set apart from the Blanca Massif and flanked by steep ridgelines and cliffs. The upper mountain crosses into private land (Trinchera Blanca Ranch), and hikers must complete a free online liability waiver before visiting. No camping, fires, hunting, or overnight stays are allowed on the property, access is limited to the two standard routes from the Huerfano/Lily Lake trailhead, and the arrangement is a privilege that can be revoked if hikers don't follow the rules.
The Northwest Gully route covers 8.25 miles round trip with 3,500 feet of gain from the 10,700-foot trailhead. The approach travels through forest and a high alpine basin to the 13,150-foot saddle between Iron Nipple and Lindsey's summit, then turns up a steep, loose gully requiring Class 3 moves near the top. The gully is far more pleasant when snow fills it; dry conditions make for unstable, gritty scrambling. The alternate Northwest Ridge diverges from the saddle and offers more stable, though steeper and more exposed, Class 3 terrain.
The summit ridge is broad and rocky, with views extending south to Wheeler Peak in New Mexico and north toward the Blanca Massif and the Crestones. Much of the approach below the private property boundary crosses the Sangre de Cristo Wilderness, where party size limits and camping regulations apply.
