Also known as: UN 13,832, Redcloud Peak - Northeast Peak
This unnamed summit is the first ranked summit on the ridge running northeast from Redcloud Peak, a rounded tundra-and-talus bump that most hikers never notice on their way to the fourteener. It ranks among Colorado's hundred highest summits, which is exactly why peak-listers make the extra effort, and the long ridge beyond it leads on to Peak 13820.
Access starts at the Silver Creek/Grizzly Gulch trailhead, shared with the Redcloud standard route. The standard combination route climbs through forest and then up Silver Creek to the 13,000-foot saddle north of Redcloud, then turns east along the ridge, skirting the intermediate bumps on their south sides to reach this summit about 5 miles in. Continuing to Peak 13820 makes a Class 2 outing of roughly 12 miles and 4,700 feet of gain. Done alone, the west ridge route runs about 9.4 miles round trip with 3,535 feet of gain, all tundra, rubble and scree with no real exposure.
Expect good footing, with the ridge to Peak 13820 laid out ahead. The terrain is easy but the whole route sits above treeline for hours, so start early in monsoon season and be ready to bail at the saddle. One party's report found a register signed by well-known Colorado climbers.
