Chimneytop Mountain sits at 4,303 feet within the Brasstown Wilderness, a roadless area in the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest near Young Harris in Union County, Georgia. The summit offers one of the state's more impressive viewpoints, a broad 180-degree panorama of Blue Ridge ridgelines that remains relatively unheralded despite its position along the Arkaquah Trail, one of Georgia's most scenic ridgeline routes.
The Arkaquah Trail runs approximately 11.8 miles out and back from Track Rock Gap to the Brasstown Bald summit, accumulating around 3,700 feet of elevation gain. The opening 1.5 miles are the steepest, gaining roughly 1,400 feet before the route settles into a rolling, forested ridge. Chimneytop lies roughly midway along the trail, with views extending north and west across layered Blue Ridge terrain and the Brasstown Bald observation tower visible to the east. Sections of the trail can turn slick from natural springs, and poison ivy edges the path from late spring through fall. The hike is particularly rewarding during autumn color season.
