Flint Knob sits at 4,260 feet in Rabun County, Georgia, within the Blue Ridge range near the community of Sky Valley. The summit itself is wooded, but two rock slab viewpoints just past the high point offer long westward panoramas across the Darnell Creek valley, with Lake Burton visible in the distance and surrounding ridgelines fading toward the horizon. A nearby unnamed knob commonly called Flint Knob East adds another outstanding overlook to the same corridor.
The peak lies partially on private property, so hikers must reach the summit entirely on public lands. The standard approach follows the yellow-blazed Bartram Trail north from the Wilson Gap Road Trailhead to Flint Gap (about 4 miles), then turns onto the orange-blazed Flint Knob Trail for another 0.65 miles to the summit area. An alternate route enters from Alex Gap to the west. Forest Service Road 155 (Wilson Gap Road) is seasonally gated from January 2 through March 17; during this window the Flint Knob Trailhead near Sky Valley remains accessible. Verify current access conditions before visiting, as the private-property boundary situation has evolved in recent years.
Autumn brings notable color to the surrounding hardwood forest, and winter visits through bare trees extend sight lines at both the summit overlooks and along the ridge walk.
