Rich Knob rises to 4,134 feet in the Southern Nantahala Wilderness of the Chattahoochee National Forest, deep in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Towns County, Georgia. The summit sits along a high, rugged ridgeline linking Blue Ridge Gap to Bly Gap, where the Appalachian Trail crosses the mountain's eastern flank before entering North Carolina. There is no maintained trail to the top, making this a genuine backcountry objective.
Reaching the summit requires off-trail navigation. The standard approach starts at Blue Ridge Gap (3,020 ft) via a rough road that warrants high-clearance or four-wheel-drive, then follows the AT northbound for roughly 2.5 miles before a steep bushwhack to the top.
