Snow Mountain (Cupsuptic) rises to 3,784 feet in a remote stretch of Oxford County, about 4 miles south of the Quebec border. The "Cupsuptic" designation distinguishes it from another Snow Mountain roughly 10 miles to the northeast in Franklin County. The mountain is flanked by Kennebago Divide to the north and West Kennebago Mountain to the south, sitting within the upper Androscoggin watershed; its western slopes drain via Snow Mountain Brook into the Cupsuptic River, while the northeast and northwest flanks shed water into Wiggle Brook and the Kennebago River.
Reaching the summit requires off-trail navigation through dense spruce and mixed hardwood forest. The approach follows a network of rough logging roads from Oquossoc, branching off Route 16 onto Morton Cutoff, then Lincoln Pond Road, and eventually Wiggle Brook Road, which skirts the mountain's northern slope. Four-wheel drive and high clearance are strongly recommended. Trip reports advise downloading a map in advance; cairns and flagging from previous parties offer some guidance but do not constitute a marked route.
The ascent from Wiggle Brook Road gains roughly 1,500 feet, climbing through open hardwood stands before transitioning to steeper spruce on the upper slopes, with a few cliff bands to navigate around. The summit is forested and viewless, with at most a slight glimpse of West Kennebago Mountain through the trees. A register canister marks the top. This is the 94th-highest peak in New England, qualifying it for the New England 100 Highest list.
