Mount Lethe sits between North Carter and Middle Carter in the White Mountains' Carter Range, tucked into the Wild River Wilderness. At 4,584 feet, it earns a place on the Trailwrights 72 list but not the standard NH 48, making it a relatively quiet destination compared to its neighbors.
The most popular approach combines the Imp Trail with the Carter-Moriah Trail in a loop of roughly 9.9 miles and 3,400 feet of gain. The summit itself has no maintained trail; reaching the rocky high point requires a short off-trail push of about 100 yards east through dense scrub from the Carter-Moriah Trail. That brief scramble rewards with views over the Wild River valley and toward the Northern Presidentials from a dome-shaped rock outcrop.
The trail can become boggy and slow-drying after rain, and sections of the Carter-Moriah Trail involve steep, rocky terrain. Traction devices or snowshoes are worth carrying for late fall and winter outings. Visiting in shoulder seasons keeps crowds minimal and the boreal forest along the ridge vivid with changing color or frost.
