Mack Mountain sits at 1,945 feet in the center of the Belknap Range near Gilford, NH. Its somewhat open summit hosts two communications towers and offers two notable outlooks: a cleared ledge to the west with views across the western Belknap Range, Mt. Kearsarge to the southwest, and Mt. Moosilauke to the northwest; and a second ledge with a broad southward panorama. Round Pond, a scenic plateau lake, lies directly below the summit and serves as a pleasant waypoint on the approach.
Most hikers reach Mack via a loop route starting from the Wood Road trailhead in Gilford, covering roughly 6 miles with about 1,100 feet of elevation gain. The route threads through mixed forest and past old logging roads before making a steep final climb to the western outlook and then the summit. The loop is commonly extended to include neighboring Mt. Klem (2,001 ft.) and Mt. Anna (1,670 ft.) for a longer tour of the central Belknap peaks.
Trails are managed by the Belknap Range Trails organization. The range is accessible year-round, though icy footing is common in winter and the lower logging-road sections tend to be muddy in early spring.
