Mount Morgan (2,213 ft) rises above the southern shore of Squam Lake in the Squam Range, offering an outsized adventure for its modest elevation. The peak is a favorite in the Lakes Region and is nearly always paired with neighboring Mount Percival on a loop trail of about 5 miles with roughly 1,500 feet of gain. The route's appeal comes less from elevation than from terrain: the Morgan Trail approach passes through a boulder cave and up a tall wooden ladder just below the summit, a scramble sequence that makes the hike feel more adventurous than the numbers suggest. A gentler bypass exists for those who prefer to skip the ladder and cave.
The open granite ledges at the summit look south over Squam Lake, with Lake Winnipesaukee visible beyond and Mount Major rising in the distance, giving a sweeping view across the heart of New Hampshire's Lakes Region. A viewpoint a short distance below the summit on the descent side provides another angle over the water.
Trails are managed by the Squam Lakes Association, which maintains the network and provides maps. The ladder and cave sections can be slippery when wet, so dry conditions and shoes with good traction make for a much more comfortable ascent.
