Mount Muise is a wooded, trailless summit reaching 3,612 feet in the remote northern reaches of New Hampshire, south of Gadwah Notch in Coos County near the Connecticut Lakes region. The mountain sees very few visitors and is sought primarily by peak baggers pursuing the NH Hundred Highest list.
Reaching the summit requires off-trail navigation through dense boreal forest, with no maintained trail to the top. Compass, topographic map, and GPS are essential given the remote location and limited landmarks in thick spruce-fir cover. The area sits well north of the main White Mountains, closer to the Canadian border than to most White Mountain hiker infrastructure, and access roads may be unpaved and in variable condition by season. No views await at the top. This is a challenging, committing bushwhack best suited to self-sufficient, experienced off-trail hikers who are prepared for remote terrain and long approaches on forest roads.
