Mount Roberts (2,582 ft) is the westernmost high point in the Ossipee Range, rising from the Castle in the Clouds Conservation Area in Moultonborough, NH. The property, managed by the Lakes Region Conservation Trust, encompasses a historic early 20th-century hilltop estate alongside an extensive trail network. The mountain earns its place on the NH 52 with a View list primarily through the open ledges along its ridge, which deliver some of the best perspectives on Lake Winnipesaukee found anywhere on foot.
The Mount Roberts Trail follows Roberts Ridge for roughly 2.5 miles to the summit, gaining about 1,300 feet on gradual, well-marked terrain. The first ledge viewpoint appears within a mile; additional openings around the 1.5-mile mark frame the lake and neighboring Ossipee peaks to the east. The summit itself offers 180-degree views toward the southern White Mountains, where Chocorua, Passaconaway, and Whiteface are prominent on the horizon. The round trip runs about 5 miles and takes most hikers around 3 hours.
For a longer day, the High Ridge Trail connects to Mount Shaw and other Ossipee peaks in loops of 9 to 12 miles. Note poison ivy near the trailhead. In winter the trail packs down with regular use and is manageable on microspikes in typical conditions; snowshoes become useful after heavy snowfall.
