Sandwich Dome (also known as Sandwich Mountain) rises to 3,992 feet at the heart of the Sandwich Range Wilderness, straddling the Sandwich-Waterville Valley town line in Carroll and Grafton counties. Despite sitting just below the 4,000-foot threshold, the mountain holds real stature: a broad, forested ridgeline with 1,200 feet of prominence, flanked by Mount Tripyramid to the northeast and Mount Weetamoo across Sandwich Notch to the southwest. The summit is mostly wooded but opens to a northward-facing directional view toward the southern White Mountains, earning the peak a place on the 52 With a View list.

The most popular approach is the Sandwich Mountain Trail and Drakes Brook Trail loop, beginning at a small roadside parking area on Route 49 in Waterville Valley. The route covers roughly 8.6 miles with about 2,850 feet of elevation gain. Heading up the Sandwich Mountain Trail, the path passes over Noon Peak near the 2.8-mile mark and reaches a junction where a short spur branches to Jennings Peak with its open ledge views; continuing 1.1 miles farther brings hikers to the Sandwich Dome summit. The return follows the Drakes Brook Trail for 3.2 miles, crossing the brook before rejoining the trailhead. A steeper alternative, the Algonquin Trail from Sandwich Notch Road, ascends over rocky ledges from the west.

The trail is hikeable three seasons, though the Drakes Brook crossing can run high during spring snowmelt. Winter conditions bring substantial snowpack to the upper ridge, where ice can form in cold weather.
