Table Mountain sits on the southern edge of the Moat Range in Bartlett, rising to 2,669 feet along seasonally-open Bear Notch Road. One of the 52 With a View peaks added in the 2020 revision of that list, it draws hikers seeking a worthwhile summit without the crowds of the high peaks.
The Attitash Trail makes a roughly 4-mile round trip with about 1,400 feet of gain. The lower half follows a gentle logging road grade alongside Louisville Brook, passing a small ledgy cascade around the half-mile mark. Above that, the terrain shifts: the trail steepens considerably through its upper third, finishing across loose scree and rocky footing that requires care, especially on the descent. The summit ridge rewards the effort with a string of open ledges looking south and east over the Swift River Valley, Mount Chocorua, the Sandwich Range peaks, and the broad face of the Moats.
Bear Notch Road closes in winter, making the trail accessible only from late spring through fall. The small trailhead pullout fills quickly on weekends, so an early start is worthwhile. Fall foliage transforms the valley views into a highlight of the season, and the open ledges make this one of the better spots in the region to watch the color spread across the Sandwich Range.
