Mount Tremont rises to 3,384 feet on the southern edge of Crawford Notch, in Hart's Location near Bartlett, Carroll County. One of the quieter entries on the NH 52 With a View list, the mountain is known for a steep trail and a summit that opens wide views southwest across the Saco Valley. Sawyer Pond sits directly below, framed by the ledges of Green's Cliff and Owl's Cliff in the foreground, with the Sandwich Range filling the background.
The Mount Tremont Trail covers about 5.5 miles round-trip with roughly 2,500 feet of gain. The first two miles follow alongside Stony Brook, crossing the stream several times on rock-hops, and the grade is manageable through this lower section. Above the two-mile mark the character changes sharply: more than twenty switchbacks carry the trail through a sustained 1,500-foot push over the final mile, steep enough to require hands-and-feet moves in a few spots but never impassable. Thick moss carpets the forest floor along the upper section.
The summit is a small open ledge; a steep boulder just past the trail end provides the best vantage point. Trailhead parking along Route 302 is limited to a handful of cars and has no sign, making it easy to miss. The mountain sees far less foot traffic than nearby peaks off Crawford Notch, and the sustained switchback section makes it a particularly colorful fall foliage destination.
