Grace Peak rises to 4,012 feet at the eastern end of the Dix Range, ranking 42nd among the Adirondack 46. Formerly known as East Dix, the mountain was officially renamed in 2014 to honor Grace Hudowalski (1906–2004), who in 1937 became the ninth person and first woman to climb all 46 High Peaks and later served as the founding historian and first president of the Adirondack 46ers.
No maintained trail reaches the summit; hikers follow a well-worn herd path. The peak is most often climbed as part of a Dix Range traverse, with the standard approach starting at the Elk Lake Trailhead and following a trail to the Slide Brook lean-to before the herd path continues up through the open slides of Macomb. From South Dix, the ridge carries roughly a mile to Grace, descending gradually for most of the distance before a steep, hands-on scramble over the final quarter mile. An alternate route approaches from the east via the North Fork Bouquet River corridor off NY 73, gaining roughly 1,300 feet in the final mile.
The summit is marked by a prominent pointed rock with nearly unobstructed 360-degree views encompassing Dix, the dramatic Grace Slide, and the sweep of Keene Valley. The remote setting in the Dix Mountain Wilderness means fewer crowds than better-known 46er peaks. Winter ascents require solid backcountry navigation skills and avalanche awareness on the open slide terrain.
