Table Mountain (NY)

Named for its long, flat summit plateau, the mountain is reached by the marked Peekamoose-Table Trail, so no bushwhacking is needed. From Denning Road, hikers follow the yellow-marked Phoenicia-East Branch Trail for 1.2 miles, then pick up the blue blazes of the Peekamoose-Table Trail, which drops to the East Branch of the Neversink River before a run of smaller hills and a final steep pull. The Peekamoose Road approach covers both this peak and Peekamoose Mountain in an 8.7-mile round trip.

The summit is a flat ridge under dense fir, so the views come from lookouts to the south along the way. A spur trail leads to the Bouton Memorial Lean-To below the top. The trail here is part of the Long Path, and the Catskill 3500 Club maintains this stretch.

Rain falling on the east end of the mountain runs to Rondout Creek and the Hudson, while the west end feeds the Neversink and the Delaware. Table is visible from the Curtis-Ormsbee Trail on Slide Mountain to the north. A three-peak day from Denning that adds Van Wyck Mountain and Peekamoose is 9.9 miles with 3,395 feet of gain.
